Deltawerks

In 1953, several dykes failed, and large portions of the Netherlands were flooded by the North Sea. In 1955, the government began the Deltawerks Project to ensure that this could never happened again. The project was an incredibly ambitious series of dams and lochs to control the water level, even in the heaviest storms. The project was completed in 1986.
