I have very definite opinions on what makes a good Halloween project. I look for and dream up projects that satisfy these goals:

• Safe
• Simple to build
• In the spirit of haunting, not chainsaw-wielding serial killers, gory accident victims, and horror-movie style gore
• Durable enough to use year after year
• Small or able to be disassembled for easy storage
• Moderate expense (I will spend a few bucks to meet these goals, but I can't justify too many expensive tools or specialty items just for an annual scare.)
