A
handicap is a way to allow golfers (or Am-Am!! participants) of different
skill levels to compete against each other on a relatively equal basis. For
the Am-Am!!, we calculate average scores for each player over the past five
years or so, and compare them against each other. Using a “proprietary
calculation”, each player is assigned a handicap value approximately
equal to the difference between that player’s average score and the best
player’s average score. After each round, the individually calculated handicap
values are subtracted from each player's score to give an adjusted net score.
The Handicap Award goes to the player with the best total adjusted score after
all four rounds.
